WHAT IS AUTO SENSING ON A WASHING MACHINE?
Auto Sensing technology helps take the guesswork out of your laundry routine. This washing machine feature automatically adjusts water levels based on the load size, which can help save water and energy.
Use this guide to learn more about Auto Sensing and how it compares to other washing machine features like Deep Water Wash.
HOW DOES AUTO SENSING ON A WASHER WORK?
Auto Sensing washers estimate the size of the load through its weight, adjusting the water levels of the wash cycle accordingly.
Load Size Sensor: This sensor measures the size of the load by noting the resistance in the drum. More laundry means more resistance to the turning drum. The number of spins the drum needs to take before it detects the resistance change is the key to how this sensor adjusts the water levels.
Water Level Sensor: Once the load size is determined, the water level sensor kicks into action. This sensor ensures that just enough water is used to fully saturate and clean the load.
HOW TO USE THE AUTO SENSING FEATURE
When using a Maytag® washing machine with Auto Sensing, start by loading the machine and adding your detergent following the instructions in your owner’s manual. Close the washer door and choose your wash cycle. Before you press Start, make sure that the Water Level knob is set to Auto Sensing.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEEP WATER WASH VS. AUTO SENSING?
The difference between Auto Sensing and Deep Water Wash, or Deep Fill, is how water usage is determined. Auto Sensing cycles sense how much water is needed based on load size and fills accordingly, while the Deep Fill option fills the wash basket with your choice of deep water levels.1
Another difference between these two settings is the duration of the wash cycle. Auto Sensing may adjust the cycle time depending on the size of the load, while the Deep Fill Option’s cycle time is between 1 and 1 ¼ hours.
BENEFITS OF A WASHER WITH AUTO SENSING
Auto Sensing can be a convenient setting that helps keep laundry day running smoothly. Explore the benefits below to help you determine if a washing machine with Auto Sensing is right for you.
Water Conservation: Washers with Auto Sensing are typically High Efficiency (HE) models. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, HE washers save 6,000 gallons of water per year for an average family.
Energy Saving: Reduced water usage can lead to energy savings over time. By not having to heat as much water for every load, you conserve power.
- Time Management: There’s no need to wait around for the cycle to finish so you can manually adjust or stop it if the water level looks wrong. Simply load, select, and start.
