STEP 1: WASH AND PEEL CARROTS

Start by washing your carrots. Use a peeler to carefully peel your carrots and cut them into smaller, even pieces. As long as they are similar in size, it will allow for even cooking.

STEP 2: PLACE IN MICROWAVE-SAFE DISH

Add water to your dish, ensuring that it is enough to cover the bottom. Place your carrots in the dish and cover with a lid. An alternative to a lid would be microwave-safe plastic wrap. If you choose this option, be sure to create a small vent for steam to be released.

STEP 3: COOK THE CARROTS

Generally, you will microwave your carrots on high for 3-5 minutes or until they’re tender. Keep in mind that the microwave’s wattage and the size of the carrot pieces can affect the cook time, so monitor the food to avoid overcooking.

STEP 4: SEASON AND SERVE

Carefully remove your steamed carrots using oven mitts or a potholder. The released steam can drip and will be very hot. Season your carrots with spices or other options such as butter or honey and toss to evenly distribute. Serve and enjoy.

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU STEAM CARROTS IN THE MICROWAVE?

Cook times will vary depending on the wattage of your microwave as well as the size of the cut carrot pieces. Higher wattage microwaves (1000 watts and above) will cook carrots faster. Smaller cut pieces of carrots also typically cook faster. Overall, they should be cooked on high for 3-5 minutes or until they are tender. If you are trying this out for the first time, keep an eye on your food to ensure your carrots don’t overcook or get too soft.

HOW DO YOU COOK WHOLE CARROTS IN THE MICROWAVE?

Whole carrots need to be washed, peeled and chopped into smaller pieces before being cooked in the microwave on high. Cut your carrots as evenly as possible so they can finish cooking at the same time. Smaller pieces tend to cook faster. Alternatively, baby carrots are much smaller than whole carrots and only require being washed and sliced in half, therefore requiring shorter cook times.

HOW TO STORE CARROTS AFTER COOKING

Allow your carrots to completely cool before storing them in an airtight container. Place them in the refrigerator, where they can last up to four days.
