HOW TO GRILL INDOORS IN AN OVEN
If you are using a grilling accessory, adjust your oven’s racks to be near the heating element. You may also opt for a broiler pan, which doesn’t require any oven rack adjustment. Then, raise your oven’s temperature to 500°F. Use the instructions below to learn how to grill in your oven.
SUPPLIES
- Cast iron grill pan or broiler pan
TOOLS
Oven
Tongs
Meat thermometer (optional)
1. REARRANGE YOUR OVEN RACKS
Rearrange your oven racks to be closer to your oven’s heating element. If you opt for a broiler pan, you can leave your racks as is.
2. PLACE EMPTY GRILL PAN IN THE OVEN AND PREHEAT
To successfully grill in your oven, your cooking surface needs to be as hot as the oven itself. Place your grilling pan on the newly arranged oven rack and preheat the oven to 500°F.
If using a broiler pan, place it on the top rack or in the broil compartment of your oven. It may take between 20-30 minutes of preheating before your oven and grilling accessories are at the ideal temperature.
3. GRILL YOUR FOOD
Once your grilling accessory is at the right temperature, carefully place your food on the pan. Cook your food as you normally would on a grill, turning it halfway through the cooking time. Brush your food with a marinade to help lock in moisture and flavor.
HOW TO USE GRILL MODE ON SELECT MAYTAG® RANGES
Using Grill Mode on your Maytag® range is simple. Just insert the included Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle following the instructions in your product manual, and you're on your way to that unmistakable grilled taste right from the convenience of your kitchen—no matter the weather or season.
IS BROILING THE SAME AS GRILLING?
Broiling and grilling use slightly different methods of heating to cook your food. Outdoor grilling cooks food on metal grates over hot coals or open flames, while broiling cooks food on a preheated pan 2-6 inches beneath the heating element. Both broiling and grilling yield similar caramelized results.
CAN INDOOR GRILLS ACTUALLY MAKE GRILL MARKS?
When you use a Maytag® range with Grill Mode, you can grill indoors and achieve the same mouthwatering grill marks you see on traditionally grilled meats and vegetables. The Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle offers a side that is ribbed in texture to imitate the grates of an outdoor grill.
ARE INDOOR GRILLS ACTUALLY SMOKELESS?
Unlike an outdoor grill that gets its heat from burning wood or charcoal, Maytag® ranges with Grill Mode use the oven’s heating element or burner to cook your food. Because of this difference in heat source, indoor grills create minimal smoke.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN AN INDOOR GRILL?
Cleaning your oven after using it to grill indoors can be as simple as any regular meal cleanup. Wait for your oven to cool down before wiping down any visible grease buildup with a damp cloth.
The Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle can be cleaned like any cast iron cookware. Avoid using degreasing agents such as dish soap or steel wool. Instead, use a mild scrubbing sponge or brush to remove any stuck-on food and rinse with water. Be sure to dry the Grill/Griddle when clean to avoid rusting.
